Mother’s Day Poetry

It’s my attempt to write Haiku type of poems for Mother’s Day. I tried to closely follow the 5-7-5 syllable pattern. I’m not quite sure if the juxtaposition of ideas (Haiku poems are supposed to have this) are present in each one but who really cares. I just wanted to share something for all mothers out there on this special occasion. To me, mothers are not only women who have children but all women who care for children and for animals like dogs and cats!

Mother’s loving gaze
a peacefully sleeping child
sweet eternity

Mother’s letting go
yielding to children’s freedom
hoping swift return

Mother’s tears pour
feeling children’s aching lows
pain will end she hopes

Mother’s legacy
Children’s happiness and joy
All that she desires

Fun, creative, and humorous are words that describe me. I spend a lot of time with my family which consists of my husband, 4 children and extended relatives. I enjoy making and maintaining true and lasting friendships. Photography, writing, and music help express myself in artistic ways. I love all kinds of sports like basketball, volleyball, and tennis. I am a special education teacher in an urban school district. I feel it's my mission to teach children with disabilities and to be their advocate.
